The Louisiana Forest Festival, re-organized in 1980, salutes Louisiana's timber industry. Timber products are the largest agricultural crop in Louisiana. The three-day festival encompasses timber-related activities such as competitions in log loading, skidding, grappling for bucks, truck rodeo, and professional timber sports. There are also numerous forestry equipment displays and related exhibits. Professional timber sports competitors come from the United States, Canada and Australia to participate in the year's first circuit show.
The Louisiana State Woodsman's Skills Championship is held during the festival. 4-H youth from throughout the state compete in various timber-related contests such as crosscut sawing, log rolling and bow-saw, rope climbing and match splitting. And like most festivals in Louisiana, there are numerous food booths, family oriented activities, and children's rides.
The Louisiana Forest Festival has a scholarship that is open to all Winn Parish Senior's. For a copy of the application contact Angelia at 318.628.5928.
